The DeFilippo Sports Palace is a multi-storey sports complex in Boston’s North End that negotiates various structural spans to accommodate different sports courts. The underlying structure consists of three sets of trusses, each forms a square to create a rigid frame. The truss in the middle is rotated 45 degrees to create a broader span for the basketball court. Three concrete cores lift the entire steel structure off the ground to create an extended public plaza beneath while providing vertical circulation.
